The Organic Research Centre – Elm Farm, a registered charity based near Newbury, is seeking to recruit the following positions:

Senior Researcher – Crops Programme

The Organic Research Centre is looking to appoint a Senior Researcher to work within its Crops Team. The Senior Researcher will undertake and supervise research trials throughout Southern and Eastern England and be involved at all stages of the trial process (planning, implementation, analysis and development). The post will report to the Crops Programme Leader.

The candidate would be educated to PhD in Plant or Crop sciences (or have equivalent experience to this level). Experience of agroecological experimentation and the ability to integrate different aspects of production and environmental impacts is highly desirable. A balanced interest in the development of organic agriculture is important. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are vital as is a track record of publications.

The successful candidate would be based at the Organic Research Centre – Wakelyns Agroforestry, Suffolk but must be prepared to travel regularly to our Elm Farm, Hamstead Marshall site in Berkshire and also elsewhere in the UK and other EU countries.

Salary range £25,000 - £31,500 (plus pension entitlement)

Research Assistant – Crops Programme

The Organic Research Centre is looking to appoint a Research Assistant at its base near Newbury, Berkshire . The post holder will be responsible for a wide range of activities, including field and laboratory work, inputting of field data as well as assisting in administration.

The candidate will be educated to at least BSc in a biological, environmental or agricultural science (or have equivalent experience to this level), with good IT skills and have an interest in the environment and organic farming. The candidate must also enjoy working in an outdoor environment. Being a ‘team player’ is essential, as is the ability to work within an environment where priorities and workloads can change rapidly. Good communication skills are desirable as is a clean driving license.

The successful candidate would be based at the Organic Research Centre – Elm Farm but must be prepared to travel regularly to our site in Suffolk and also elsewhere in the UK .

Salary range £17,000 - £20,000 (plus pension entitlement)
